Every couple of months, we rally communities together and arm them with gardening tools and paint brushes to give public spaces around South Auckland a good spruce up!
Clean-ups and placemaking is the art of putting some love into our public spaces so the community utilises, values and feels safe in the area.
Our annual sweep of clean-ups were originally part of the Town and Local Centre (TLC) Clean-up Initiative which has proven to be a powerful tool. “TLC” was initiated by former Auckland Mayor, Len Brown. Since then we've been cleaning up streams, schools, beaches, reserves and so much more!
In 2016, we pulled in all our connections and successfully ran New Zealand's Largest Volunteer Clean-up Event with nearly 2,000 people who removed 9 tonnes of rubbish.
Clean-ups and Community Projects
On average, our events and placemaking projects donate over 3,500 hours a year of free labour. However, it's the civic pride, and neighbourly connections that are the real positive outcomes!
We organise everything; you just need to turn up and be ready to get stuck in! Afterwards we love to share kai after our clean-ups and celebrate the hard work achieved.
