Eye on Nature School Days
Monday 18 - Thursday 21 March 2024 | Auckland Botanic Gardens
Eye on Nature School Days is the Beautification Trust's annual environmental education event for South and East Auckland primary schools.
This free event empowers tamariki to become environmental heroes of the future, with hands-on activities and engaging lessons to connect with te taiao and learn how to be more sustainable in everyday life.
Over the course of four days, nearly 1,500 students get stuck in with interactive lessons and hands-on learning experiences delivered by our expert programme partners.
2024 Eye on Nature Theme: Act Local – Growing with Te Taiao
Join us this year as we explore our theme, "Act Local – Growing with Te Taiao." We'll discover how small actions in our own backyards can make a big difference for the environment and we will be asking questions llike:
-
What can we do in our local area to help nature?
-
How can fun activities like gardening or rubbish clean-ups teach us about taking care of our environment?
-
Why is learning about Maatauranga Maaori important in looking after our surroundings?
We're using Puhinui awa and Totara Park as our outdoor classrooms. Students will get hands-on experience in environmental projects like water testing, wildlife care, and home composting. It's all about learning by doing and seeing how we can all help our local environment thrive.
