“It’s really cool to be able to provide people with affordable good quality secondhand stuff and prevent it from going to landfill,” says Louise Beuvink, of the new Manurewa Community Recycling Centre.
Beuvink says all sorts of people visit the centre, from all over South Auckland and even internationally. She tells the story of one couple who’d been looking for a suitcase for days. They were flying back to Australia the next day and couldn't afford the $100-plus suitcases in the retail stores. They left really happy with a second-hand suitcase for $18.
