South Auckland is about to get even more vibrant, thanks to an exciting new partnership between EcoMatters and the Beautification Trust! We're activating the Street Art Bike Challenge in South Auckland, inviting whaanau and friends to hop on their bikes and discover the rich tapestry of street art that decorates our neighbourhoods.

From 1 April, this unique challenge—now in its fifth year—will shine a spotlight on the vibrant street art and murals around Taamaki Makaurau. The Beautification Trust is also launching Rewa Rides, a series of five free, guided bike rides kicking off on 5 April from our very own Bike Hub Manurewa.

Best of all? If you don’t have a bike or helmet, we’ve got you covered! Our Bike Hub team will be lending them out for the guided rides, making sure everyone has the chance to take part in this fun, active and creative event.

Pedal Your Way to Over $1000 in Prizes

Exploring Auckland’s street art isn’t just a feast for the eyes—it could also win you some fantastic prizes! Whether you join one of our Rewa Rides or explore the city at your own pace, simply snap a pic of you and your bike at any of the challenge’s designated art spots and upload it to the official online form.

Every photo submitted earns an entry into the draw for weekly spot prizes and grand prizes, including Kokako coffee and cookie packs, bike lights, Gordon Harris art supplies, chocolate and even New Zealand’s most sustainable sneaker to date. Manukau bike franchise 99 Bikes has also jumped in with their support supplying more than 20 lights and locks to be handed out as spot prizes.

The more you explore, the more chances you have to win!

More Than Just a Ride

By partnering with EcoMatters for the Street Art Bike Challenge, the Beautification Trust is creating a special opportunity for the community to connect with local art and celebrate the unique identity of our neighbourhoods.

“Our guided bike rides will give the community a chance to engage with these murals, hear their stories, and experience first-hand how art can uplift a place,” says Beautification Trust CEO, Daniel Barthow. “We look forward to seeing whaanau, friends, and people of all ages come together to ride, explore, and be inspired.”

With the additional support of Manukau: Heart of the South, this challenge is also encouraging workers, students, and visitors to experience Manukau’s vibrant street art scene by bike.
