Manurewa High School has been celebrated in the community for their fantastic community garden project, Te Maara Kai O Wirihana. Unfortunately the onsite water tanks and nearby walkway have been a target for graffiti vandalism.
The Beautification Trust worked with Manurewa High School students to design new murals for the water tanks to prevent future vandalism. The mural designs reflect school values, native flora and fauna and the kaupapa of the community garden.
On Monday 9 August, we got together with the students to paint out the tagging on the water tanks and start work on the new murals.
Then on Saturday 14 August, a dedicated group of volunteers from the Jesus Christ Church of the Latter Day Saints pitched in to help. They tidied up the nearby walkway by removing graffiti, weeds and litter; and helped prepare the community garden beds for spring planting.
The water tank murals will be completed once COVID-19 alert levels allow. Watch this space for updates!
